I HAVE A LOTTERY QUESTION!!!!!??????/?

I won a SIGNIFICANT amount of money yesterday in the lottery and I have a question. I live with my mother and me and her don't get along, well i chose to not have any type of relationship or communication with her. My question is am I obligated to give her any money by law??? I plan on not giving her a dime! Can she take me to court for that??? I bought the ticket myself so I'm assuming I am not legally obligated to give anyone money. But I'm not sure. What do you think?

Update:

Oh and the reason for me not giving her any money is personal but I have a very good reason not to! =) Thanks for responding.

Update 2:

And I'm 19 years old. & I do plan to move out in about a month or so.

Update 3:

I was thinking of giving her 2 years worth of rent since I'm 19 years old and thats it.

Update 4:

Thanks everyone for your help. And good LUCK to the girl who bough the ticket! =)

You are over the required age to gamble in your place of residence? Then the money, aside from what they may take for taxes, if it really is significant, is completely yours. You do not have to give her anything.

HOWEVER, if you are living with your mother, it does raise the question of bills. If she is paying for your rent, food, heat, hydro, electricity or anything else, then you really should give her something, even if you do make it clear that it's not because you'd like to.

That depends. How old are you?

I think if you're 18 or older then there's absolutely no legal basis on her to take any money. Not sure if you're under 18.

I don't think she has ANY right to take any of your money..

Wow you're very lucky..i've been wanting to win the lottery for years..lol or at least SOME good money lol

if 18 and older than nope. you don't have to give her anything. if you have a problem with your mom then just move out with the money if it is that good.

So long as you bought the ticket and are of legal age to buy a ticket, then it's all yours to do what you want with it.

if you are old enough to play lottery you are not obligated at all to share any winnings with ANYONE unless you are married and even in some states that doesnt apply.

my advice, collect and move out.

    congratulations.
