Licorice gourami question?
I love licorice gouramis, especially Parosphromenus filamentosus, Parosphromenus harveyi, Parosphromenus nagyi, and Parosphromenus deissneri, and I'd love to get a pair at some point in the future.
However, I've heard that they're super delicate and hard to care for. Has anyone had any experience with them? What's the "hardiest" species? If you were setting up a licorice gourami tank, how would you go about it?
P. filamentosus is my favorite, but I love P. deissneri too. If I ever got a pair, I was thinking a sponge filter would be best. I'd also use lots of driftwood, live plants and probably a peat substrate. Do they need live food, or would frozen work too?

They are, indeed very delicate and hard to keep alive.
I'd say P. deissneri might be the hardiest of these, but it's not very hardy.
If I were setting up a licorice gourami tank, I'd put in a lot of plants, use very soft, very clean water, and some aeration but not too much water movement (if that makes sense). I'd also be very careful about what tank mates I put in (maybe none except the small gouramis).

Anyway, I also hear that they're very hard to keep. They need acidic pH and very soft water. My LFS has a tank with them (on hold though) and it has driftwood and Java Fern (and brown peat-filtered water).
