Being direct versus not?

I have a quick question for the women of Yahoo Answers.

Which do you like more, or at the least find less tedious: when guys are really direct, and say, straight up, how they feel and asking you out?

or,

when guys try to be cool and keep their cards close to the vest, so to speak, to get you to make the first move?

I think the first one is the better route, but I'm not sure. Thanks in advance!
