I need help identifying a bird seen in northwestern New Mexico?

Yesterday a large bird landed under our porch roof and next to a window. It's head would remind you of a dove, gray, but with a much larger bill. It had a grayish chest with black speckles and dark wings. I've lived here for 25 years and have never seen this bird before. This doesn't seem to be the time of year for migratory birds. Anyone have photo's or ideas of what species this could be?

Update:

This bird is larger than a dove and we couldn't see the top side of the body, just the breast area, that was speckled. It isn't a mockingbird, we have a few of those over the summers and this bird is quite a bit larger than that bird. Like I said, the head is the same color as a dove but just to the neck. My husband said maybe it was a species of woodpecker and I did do some research without luck. Thanks for any help.
