What do Red Sox fans think of Mariano Rivera?

Being a Yankee fan I have people on the BoSox that I hate (Schilling) and people that I don't like but got to respect (Youkilis, Papi).

Just wanted to get another take

You can be sure that the Red Sox don't like to see Rivera come into the ball game with the Yankees ahead. Just like every other team the Red Sox are well aware of his ability.

Well, here's a first hand opinion (from a Red Sox fan):

Mariano Rivera is probably the best closer of all time. He's a true Yankee. If any Red Sox fan doesn't like Mariano, it's only because he's that frickin' good.

Just to let you know, I've got a ton of respect for the Yankees organization and the players who were there from the very beginning of their careers: Jeter, Bernie Williams, Jorge...

Mo is a definitely Hall of Famer, and rightfully so. When comparing him to Trevor Hoffman (another closer who has said to be the greatest of all time), I'm always on Mariano's side...

I have no idea what fans from Boston think of him (as a whole), but I do know that every Red Sox fan I know, including myself, would've loved to have him on our team had Jonathan Papelbon not been in the organization...

Here's the ultimate sign of respect from a Red Sox fan: I hate to see him come in the game.

Because I know how good he is. He's close to automatic. Mariano also seems like a class act personally. I'd take him on my team anytime. I also have plenty of respect for some of the rest of the core of the championship run - Jeter, Williams, Posada.

The Red Sox were a little lucky to beat Rivera in Game Four in 2004 (gotta give skill a little credit there) to start the comeback.

As a huge red sox fan i have utmost respect for mariano rivera. As i do for most of the yankees. You dont get into an organization with that talent if you arent one of the greatest in the game. Same goes for the Red Sox. There is only 1 player on the yankees roster I dont like and its A-rod. Mainly because he acts so cocky. Yes he is one of the highest paid players and does back up is ********* at times but he just drives me crazy. Although i do have respect for him and his accomplishments. Mo could come play for the Red Sox if he ever wanted to and I would root for him with respect.

I believe he's the best reliever ever in the history of MLB. He's also a class act. I think most Boston Red Sox fans, and I am one, have great respect for Rivera on both counts. Personally, I hope he keeps closing for the Yankees for as long as he can pitch.

    Take care.

  • Many Red Sox fans dislike him because he is a yankee, however after 2004, people changed their tune about him; mostly because he choked in the ALCS. He is a class act player however, and is respected by many fans and regarded as one of the best closers of all-time.

I have always liked Mo. After 2004, I loved him!

Seriously, though. He's a class act, I look forward to seeing him in the Hall and never find myself wishing to see him blow-out body parts the way I think about Jeter's knees.
