Cat Purchase Contract?

A cat breeder requires a "Kitten Contract" with conditions that seem bizzarre and invasive to me, for instance you cannot transfer ownership of the cat to anyone without written permission of the seller and seller must be given right of first refusal if buyer cannot continue to keep the cat. Or if cat is found to be neglected/mistreated Seller has unconditional right to reclaim the cat.

I understand the desire to protect the cats and ensure their health and safety but this is a bit overmuch. Would any of this even be enforcable?

uh...it's a signed contract. It's as enforcable as the parties involved are willing to defend it.

I'd call a local shelter; hundreds of cats there.

Yes it is enforceable. Do you remember the big controversy with Ellen Degeneras when she gave her dog to her hairdresser.

The dog was removed from the home of the hairdresser even though there were children involved and had become attached.

They do seem invasive but they believe they are doing it to make sure you understand that this is not something to take lightly and that you have thought long and hard about your decision. A cat can live 15 years or more and needs to be taken to the veterinarian regularly for shots not to mention if they become sick.

Just so you know the same kind of contract will be asked of you at an adoption center and they may even request of you to kept the poor creature always in the house which I consider cruel and unusual punishment.

That sounds pretty standard for all reputable breeders of cats and dogs. I feel it shows they care, and are not just a kitty/puppy farm.

As someone before me said, if you do not feel you can hold up your end of this kind of contract, go to a shelter and adopt.

Just because they cannot speak to us, animals have feelings, both emotional and physical, and require a good home with love and care.

If you sign it. It becomes a legal contract. Yes it is enforceable even if it is a bit ridiculous, It is to make sure the animal is well cared for.
