What does it mean when my AT&T Tilt phone battery can't hold a charge?

I have two batteries for my AT&T Tilt that just all of sudden can't hold a charge after I've charged them. They also deplete of juice quickly. For example, last night I charged one battery to 82% and took it out of my phone and charged the second one as it was empty. All morning, the second battery still won't get charged. I switched back to the 82% battery and it's already empty. How is that possible since I didn't use it at all? The charger icon comes on when my phone is plugged in. Does this mean these batteries are no good anymore and that I need new ones?

By only partially charging the batteries yiou have ruined them. They have what is called a memory effect and they "remember" how much they were charged the last time and and the unused portion of the battery crystallizes. So the more you don't completely allow them to discharge completely and recharge completely the more they will go bad. Do not charge them until they are almost dead and then allow them to fully charge before using them again.
