Computers on my wireless network often lose connection.?
Ok this is a pretty long description of my problem, so bear with me and read carefully.
I have a Linksys wireless router with two computers on the network. One is a Dell Laptop and the other is a custom built midi tower PC.
We initially get on the network fine, but a few times in an evening one of the following will happen.
1. We still seem to be connected to the router but the Internet completely dies for some reason and only unplugging and replugging the router fixes this. This problem is OFTEN caused by something as simple as one of us getting up from the computer. If my wife or I simply stand up and walk away, it often causes the net to die.
2. We still seem to be connected to the router but the WEB completely dies - online gaming, voice chat, yahoo messenger etc all still seem to work. Unplugging and replugging the router fixes the problem every time.
3. The Laptop loses connection to the network and reconnects - causing the net to die in the meantime.

Now, I figured since we live in an apartment complex and over the street from some businesses/shops with wifi perhaps a move from the default channel 6 would help, so I switched to channel 11 - I also changed some stack size from 1500 to 1492 as suggested on some other forum.
This seemed to help to an extent - the Laptop experienced no random DC's, but the Internet did die once or twice in the following 24 hours - requiring an unplug and replug of the router.
Tonight when we came home we couldn't even SEE the network - it would pop up on very low signal (even though it is about 2 feet from the laptop and 6 feet from the PC). Eventually we were able to get briefly connected and change back to channel 6 and now everything seems OK, although I'm now back to square 1.
I'm wondering if channel 11 would be any better or if there's something Im missing here becuase I am totally at my wits end.
There's also overhead power lines outside and over the street there's a big cell phone tower - not sure if these will cause interference.

You don't say how old your router is. Have you tried upgrading the firmware from the manufacturer's website? The power lines and cell towers could be causing you problems, and you might try moving the router to a different spot in your apartment.

interior the worldwide of raido frequencies if one frequency interferes with yet another it is going to channal hop. Like working example I had a chum who had a on the spot telephone that ought to disconnect him each and every time it became into responded. The frequency the telephone had became into to on the breaking point of his on the spot networks. So i think of the comparable element is happening to you. somebody is utilizing some kinda frequency to reason yours to lose its connection. yet another difficulty according to risk your on the spot isn't getting sufficient sign. Or the Cable/DSL has a low sign. For the on the spot sign you may upload antennas to it or placed a on the spot AP interior the middle to spice up the sign. if it truly is the Cable/DSL sign interior the lines then it is the ISP fault and that they could ought to come examine the capability of the sign. additionally make valuable your on the spot is maintain. do no longer use WEP as stated till now it truly is an previous in many circumstances going on and has been broken. truly use WPA.
