What is the best place to visit if I ever travel near you?

If I ever go to a place near you, what would be your recommendation, other than the known tourist traps?

Any info is helpful, a hotel, a church, a small plaque, a mom and pap dinner or a fine restaurant, places to shop or even a good view.

If you ever come to Portugal, I recommend the Church of S. Francisco, the fabulous beaches of the Algarve, and a trip in the Douro Train, that follows the wineries of the Douro valley.

Update:

The surf is AWESOME!! I'm sure that the thing that would surprise you more is the feeling of safety, and the friendliness of the people. This is a great place to live.

I live in Newport beach, CA.

You can go visit the golden gate bridge and san francisco which is about a 6 hour car ride from newport beach. You could visit los angeles which is a 1 hour car ride, there is universal studios and a whole bunch of famous streets such as Sunset blvd. You could also go surfing in santa monica or rent those four person, four wheeled bikes and ride doung the venice beach boardwalk for quite an experience. San diego is 1 hour south where you could also go surfing or visit the famous san diego port and check out battleships from WW2. 1 hour south of san diego is mexico so if you like doing things against the law in the US then i recommend going down there. Plus everything there is super cheap (Clothes, food, medication...). If you'd like to go do some hiking or camping in CA, i recommend going to death valley or hiking in the Sierra Nevada mountains, where there is great fishing and beautiful scenery. In the winter you can go skiing or snowboarding in these mountains or you can go a little north to Tahoe or mammoth where the snow is even better.

Source(s): I want to go to portugal sometime. I heard the surf is phenomenal there.

Wow, you stories about nice people doing kind things is heart-warming. So I was inspired by spending a winter in the frozen north. Thin blue skies, -60 outside, snow falling, Ravelle on the music box. The house where I stayed had a pre-set thermostat that would have kept the house just barely habitable but I put a bag of ice-cubes over the sensor to trick the thermostat into believing it was even cooler. So, voila the furnace would come on. That is when I would get to work on my lap top. I wrote more during that vacation than....ever!

If you come to Saudi Arabia in the summer, I recommend this quaint nad unique little town in the southern mountains called Abha. The city is very clean and the weather is fantastic: cool on the hottest days of the summer. One summer I visited Abha and there was a hail storm, in August. That was beside the usual afternoon rain and very low clouds due to the high elevation.

There are many activities to do there such as hang gliding and mountain climbing etc...

Itasca State Park, Minnesota USA. Headwaters of the Mississippi River. It also has large stands of red pine and beautiful lakes.
