How do I renew a provisional driving license (UK)? ?
The provisional is about 10 years old and the person wants to give driving another go as they were unable to afford to do so before.
They are not 70+ so don't need that particular renewal form.
Thanks

If the provisional licence is a photocard style licence and is over 10 years old, a new one is needed before the person starts learning to drive (there's a fee of £17.50 to pay too!).
If it's a photocard and under 10 years old, it's still valid and they can start driving lessons straightaway, although if any of the details have changed, the licence should be sent back to the DVLA for amendment.
Similarly, if the licence is the pre-photocard old-style paper licence, they have no expiry date and as long as none of the details on the licence have changed such as the name or address, it can still be used.
Generally speaking form D1 obtainable from a Post Office or the DVLA will cover most eventualities!
There's more info on the websites below including how to apply for a new licence if one is needed;

When the licence is nearing expiry DVLA will send a renewal invitation. If they do not you will need to get a form D1 from any post office and apply on that, you will need to supply a new photo.
