Any experience with WWOOF?

I'm thinking about joining WWOOF (Willing Workers On Organic Farms) and going to Ireland or England and working on a farm. I'd really like to go abroad to Europe and I thought this would be a great opportunity. Has anyone every done it before? Or know anyone who has? I'd love to hear any feedback, thanks!

From what I have heard WWOOF is a great opportunity.

Here is a blog you might want to read from someone involved http://www.backdoorjobs.com/wwoof.html

I know people who have travelled and WWOOF'd and have found it hard work, but quite rewarding. It varys as to what you get in return at each place, but you get to meet people, see places, do some good for the planet and get fit at the same time!

I would say research it well. Make your plans before you go, and have back up plans. There are many beautiful places in Europe and it is a great place to visit. Ireland and England have lots of lush countryside, but you might wish to go to Wales and Scotland too. There are different types of farms so have a look into what interests you. I hope you enjoy it and make the right descision.

The ones i know who worked on farms loved it because they really experienced the place and culture. Best way to do it in my book!

And in response to the other guy, they are regulated by the government and several other bodies.

    Northern Ireland http://www.dardni.gov.uk/

    UK http://www.defra.gov.uk/

    National Farmers Union http://www.nfuonline.com/

Maybe you shoudl contact them if you have any specific queries. Or WWOOF can put you in touch with other people who have taken part?

    I hope that helps you.

There is the National Union of Farmers

I wouldn't do it. Working conditions are not as regulated there as they are here from what I know. Dont outsource yourself if we are already outsourcing the jobs.
