Use this program to clean up any useless internet files, etc:
Use this program after using the first one to find out where big files might be stored so you can take care of them. Caution, dont delete anything from C:\Windows or anywhere you dont know what it is.

If you have Windows then Perform a Disk Cleanup which is located under All Programs-Accessories-System Tools. Then delete all but your last system restore point, clean out your temporary files. Then if you still want to try cleaning a little more you can download CCleaner and run it, cleaning all your temporary files, caches, etc. Then i would recommend running a registry scan with CCleaner just in case (it might help speed up you computer a bit). This should help at least a little, otherwise you are going to have to track down which folder is larger than it should be (the Windows folder shouldn't be too large, maybe 3 to 7Gb depending on what you have installed).

Use a Disk Space Analyzer tool like this one:
http://www.download.com/SizeExplorer-Free/3000-224...
This should give you an idea of what is taking up so much space. I use a program called Space Mogul, but for some reason I can't remember where I got it.

Do you download a lot of music or video? Do you compress your files, if you have a lot of them? Sometimes media takes up a lot of space on the hard drive and you don't even realise it.

in windows explorer (or just go to your computer) locate the hardrive and look through whats in it. if you dont recognize anything, delete it. just keep in mind that since its 55g... it may take a while

I would reinstall your computer if you know how....just use the disk that came with it..reinstall everything and things should work great after that!!
