chronic leg pain after 8 mile road ride?

Rode my fixed gear bike down to the farmers market and back. Next day had incredible pain from hip down to calf in right leg. Thought it was because of fixed gear bike. As I recall I was complaining on my rear in extra ordinary pain while riding (I did have padded shorts on). Next day pain was going away but on 3rd day woke up with extroidinary pain from hip to calf and ankle. Thought maybe a pinched nerve, but symptoms don't add up; no tingling or pin pricks, just on/off pain. Maybe poor circulation, but that would mean I've been having a long build up of chlorestorol or high blood pressure; I have elevated chlorestorol but no high blood pressure. On vacation now, need to see a doc when I get back. Just wondering what it could be, have never experienced this before and nervous.

~ hi ~ ! I'm sorry about your leg pain. Sciatica can be caused by inflammation, so there could be inflammation occurring in your lumbar region that is causing the leg pain. (Common for this type of pain to radiate to the hip and to the leg).

Here is information on Sciatica from the Mayo Clinic:

    http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/sciatica/DS00516

What might help you reduce the inflammation that may be occurring is applying an ice pack or compress to your lumbar spine area and your hip (this will help reduce any inflammation that might be occurring). Also, using a hot water bottle or heating pad will help to relieve the pain you're experiencing your leg. In addition, you might want to try taking Liquid gels Ibuprofen (if you can tolerate Ibuprofen), they are very fast acting and work great at reducing any inflammation that your body is experiencing.

If your pain increases or you don't get much relief, I would definitely call your Doctor and have it checked out.

I hope you get relief from the pain soon! =)

Good effort girl! Youre just sore. It happens after serious exercise. I would say that it's too late for ice and please don't take any pills. If youre mobile and there's no noticeable swelling then there's no serious damage. A nice hot bath and some gentle stretching should do it. (I'm assuming youre early teens or something?) 26 miles is a lot of pedal rotations and that repetitive strain will take its toll on the joints. You must have a very comfortable saddle, because you don't mention the most common complaint for debutantes. Really well done though. I do several hundred k's a week now but I still remember when 20 miles + was a daunting prospect - still is some days!

Yeah, it sounds a lot like sciatica. You might want to look into "trigger point therapy", it can be a very effective remedy.
