This is not meant to offend, so please don't take offense. This is how the government assistance programs work. Anyone can be labeled as "low income" but there are different degrees. Some need the assistance or they can't survive, others (like the first poster) just take the assistance because it's there and free. Nothing wrong with taking the assistance that is available, but be prepared, nothing is FREE! These programs are designed to help CHILDREN especially! So if you take free handouts from the state, then they are going monitor you, and give you all the help and resources they think you need. If you don't want someone coming to your house to offer your advice on how to bathe your baby, then don't take the free medical assistance, simple as that. The statistics have PROVEN that children of low income families have a world of problems. The state is jumping in to try to mediate, after all, you DID ask for their help financially. Of course no one is going to worry about what the "rich" do, they are not asking for help! If you are borderline low income and CAN do it on your own, then make the decision, do you want the free assistance AND the sometimes unwanted parenting help, or do you want to barely make it. Choose the second option and the state leaves you alone, simple as that, because they are NOT involved! Just like housing assistance, if you get housing, someone WILL come to your house and investigate, KNOW THIS BEFORE YOU APPLY. If you don't like it, simply no not apply. When you ask for help financially, that DOES look like bad parenting to the state. I realize some people cannot help it, understandable, but then just suck it up and take the class or let the woman show you how to bathe your child. It's a simple price to pay for FREE food, childcare, and medical insurance, and discounted rent! Am i right? So watch dog programs are just that, you involved the state into your business and let them help you raise your kids, do you really think they are going to sit back and do nothing? There are malnutritioned kids, living in less than ideal living conditions, and being neglected. Most of the time these parents are low income. So yeah, the state is going to try to help as many as they can. Don't take offense, be happy that these kids are able to get a better chance because of these programs! Not everyone is like you. If you don't really NEED the assistance then don't take it, then you don't have to worry about anyone labeling you or judging your parenting skills.
