dam reversing round a corner!!!!?
i am a learner driver and have had my problems but have always managed to get over them after a couple of weeks but i have been learning how to do a sweeping left (reverse round a smooth corner) and i just don't get it! i understand it, and i see where my reference point is but i forget it as soon as i have done it so i have no confidence in it and miss it. also it seems to change and i don't know why. i feel like my driving instructor thinks i'm stupid or not listening but i'm really trying. i got him to explain it to me again and i felt alright but then after an hour or so i'm terrified of it agin. i got the three point turn straight away and love reversing but hate this manouver is there any tips anyone can give me coz i'm getting nowhere with it and it's wrecking my confidence with driving in general.

Many learner drivers struggle with reversing because of a number of things.
One thing is that you may be concentrating too much about how far away from the kerb you are.and this will lead to you driving into it!!!!!
Try this.
After you have reached the point where you start to reverse around the corner and after stopping to do your observation checks, then think not about the kerb but about everything you can see out of your rear window!!!.Position yourself so you can see both sides of the rear window, and look right down the road as far as you can see ( just forget where the kerb is ) You will automatically go where you are looking. Exact distance from the Kerb is not important
Think of it this way
When you are driving forwards do you look at the kerb and think about how far away from it you are?
No you look where you are going
Also never be tempted to look round to the front when the car is moving in reverse.Stop first if you feel you need to look to the front ( like you wouldnt turn round and look out of the back window when you are in traffic and going at 50mph forwards )
Think of reversing like this and you will do it easy after a little practice.
Hope this helps

I have three words to help you. The first is 'practice'. The second is... er...'practice' and the third is, you guessed it...... practice.
The left reverse is one of the manoeuvres which appears quite difficult to grasp to begin with - that's because every corner is different so the amount of steering depends on judgement for each corner rather than a set amount of turns (as in the turn in the road).
Once you have been taught to do it, the only way to perfect it is practice time and again. After a while, you begin to get a perception of where the car is in relation to the kerb without necessarily understanding why - believe me, it's the same for everyone.
So practice between lessons and if you don't like the way your instructor has taught you to do it, ask him to teach you another way. All teachers should be able to teach many methods and be able to pick the one most suited to the pupil.
Meanwhile, here is a link to a free video lesson which keeps it to the point and simple - hope it helps!

Everyone is different and this may not work for you but ...
When I was learning I always used to make the mistake of keeping the steering wheel turning which completely buggered the reverse up until I practiced choosing a point at which I would turn the wheel just so much and hold it there.
Each time I tried again I managed to correct the angle bit by bit until BINGO BANGO!
have a butchers at this (watch the front wheels carefully!)

Try playing driving games on the computer to see how its actually supposed to work!
