This is done for several reasons. There was two separate incidents that the person was tried for and each one called for this sentence. It gives closure to the victims of crime in each and it also covers both incidents in case of appeals. Suppose an appeal is granted for ONE offense due to process of law being violated. That still leaves a life sentence without parole.
As an example of this, when Jeffrey Dahmer was convicted of murdering and eating children, he was sentenced to 15 life sentences with no parole.
I hope this helps and you can find it useful

LMAO to the first answer wow it had me laughinq for about 5 minutes. Just want to say that even though it was funny your answer was completely racist and rude just because her avatar is black don't mean its her boyfriend in jail, it could be any one better yet it doesn't even have to be any one she knows it could have been something she seen on T.V. or read in a book and could be curious about so keep the racist comments and name calling to your self. Moving on.....2 life sentences without parole basically means that the person will never be out of jail there's no possibility of them coming out the chances are 1 in infinity .
Hope I helped =]
