Why do we condemn our differences and not celebrate them?

I cannot speak for other places but in this country it seems as though we have been accustomed to condemning our differences rather than celebrating them. Gay or non gay, white or black, skinny or fat, smart or not as smart. We pursue levels of comedy in regards to all of these which can be funny at times but comedy can be a form of celebration. However in real public life, it seems we condemn each other more for our differences from another person. Is this a good thing? How can we alter our perspective on this issue? Is it even possible to have a society where we do not condemn our differences? Maybe if we were all the same? Thoughts please.

Update:

And it shows in all forms of society as well, even in government. That guy believes in not supporting our troops and so forth. Is this acceptable?

Eh. As a Republican and Conservative I really don't care what the sandal wearing, tree hugging, pot smoking mobrains think.

Personally I don't hate minorities or gays. I don't care if you want an abortion or get married to someone of the same sex.

    That's someone else's bag.

What I'm concerned about is the future of this nation and all of its people. And it seems to me that the divisions that we see today are created by media feeding frenzies and appear to be almost scripted or pre-programmed. As if the choices aren't real and the results are actually an illusion.

Maybe I'm wrong but if you want to beat the bushes on who's dividing whom, the press seems to be the starting point.

This is a very important question.

During the 60s persons learned to put aside differences to work on causes, and also at the same time were able to celebrate each unique background ethnic or cultural.

There were efforts from various 'other groups' in order to disrupt that peace.

An assembled citizenship in numbers is a mass force greater than the government. The USA has not ever really been divided although there are some groups that work to that ends.

Hi :) This is a good question and I think Tekmantwo gave the best answer so I would really like to encourage u to look up those scriptures in your own bible. My answer to your question is that Jehovah's witnesses truly believe in the bible. We don't accept any religious beliefs or traditions unless we can prove it in the bible. Because of this even young children can quote bible scriptures to show why they believe the way they do. So because of searching through the scriptures JW's have strong faith in Jesus as the son of God and the reining king of His kingdom. We believe in loving all of our neighbors, in not judging others, paying taxes, and that since Jehovah God is a loving God that he would never send anyone to hell. We also put faith in the resurrection hope, where the majority of those who have died will be resurrected and live forever on a paradise earth. And we believe that 144,000 will be resurected to heaven and have already begun to rule with christ Jesus since 1914. There are scriptures to support all of these beliefs and I really encourage u to take the time to research them. Something I really respect about my religion is the love that is shown, but also that we are so sure of the truths found in the bible, that we encourage everyone to search through them with a sincere heart. I hope this helps and that u have a great day :)

It's human nature to dislike someone because they're different than you. I would like to see all this go away also. Because honestly, it's part of my life. If you have one thing wrong with you, everyone else feels like they have the right to look down upon you. I know, it's wrong. But that's the way it's always been, and that's the way it's always going to be.

here's a list of why people can't just accept each other:

    racism

    money

    position

some were raised to be that way

some think that they are the master race

    status

i don't know if people will ever accept each other for who and what they are, but i am sure glad that God accepts and loves each and every one of us!

It is normal....especially in a country where freedom of speech is one of the cornerstones that we hold dearly. And, we do sometimes celebrate together as well. It depends on the situation.

You MUST judge moral issues. If you don't judge between good and evil, evil will always win.
