    Artery. These are the vessels that the blood is delivered from the heart the rest of the body. Veins are the vessels that return from capillaries, and the rest of the body to the heart...therefore the pressure is lower in them. The top number (systolic) is the pressure in the arteries at the highest. The bottom number (diastolic) is the pressure of arteries at rest (end of pumping cycle). That is why doctors are concerned if you have a high diastolic, yet a normal systolic. That means your arteries never get a break.
