would this count as volunteering for HS volunteer hours.?
ok so i am pretty good friends with the boys basketball coach, and he asked me if i wanted to be a "manager" , so basically i show up after shcool, sweep the floor, run the game clock, and run errands that need be.
i was wondering if this would count as volunteer work.
my dad says no, he says it's not in/around the community.
what do you think

I tried using the jours I spent managing my schools baseball team for credit on my civics community service project last year, but the teacher didn't accept them, saying it was just being involved with the school and not necessairly volunteering.
Good Samaritan has opportunities to be a bell ringer at this time of the year, it's an easy two hours and you can do it with a friend. =] (Just an idea if you need one)
Hope I helped

I agree with your dad. The purpose of HS volunteer programs are to take students out of their comfort zones and expose them to different environments and working conditions that exist in the community. While what you suggest is volunteer work, your being a manager for your coach, at your school with people you already know, doesn't fulfill the purpose of the volunteer programs.

No.
Yes, you're volunteering your time, but it's also considered being a student athlete.
If there is a zoo around your area, try there. I volunteered there for a project of mine and it was a lot of fun.

I would use it to count as hours as long as you are not being paid. If the hours are for a school club try to ask the sponsor or person in charge.

It definitely counts! You're helping out without being paid... that's volunteering. (:
