NYC-- Please recommend restaurants?

My friends (n=6) and I are planning to spend New Year's Eve in the city, but don't know what's the best way to approach it. We were thinking dinner then parties. Have any of you done this in NYC before? And which restaurants and clubs/parties do you recommend? We can't afford high-end restaurants but something nice would be great.

Note: we all live in nyc..just haven't ventured out during new year's before.

Thanks in advance!

The only parties you are probably going to find is at hotels and those are typically expensive tickets. There are plenty of clubs, bars, lounges, etc. you can go to, the link below has a list of them in NY. Sometimes they will be hosting something special for that night with more affordable tickets. It looks like there are restaurant/lounge places on the list. Some will serve dinner then turn into a 'club/bar'.

You can't go wrong with Otto's. Awesome tiki bar, great atmosphere, and drinks are reasonable.
