The area around Cote des Neiges and Queen Marie is a delightful mix of students and older residents. There are lots of apartments in all price ranges and it's walking distance to the Polytech. My daughter lives on Ridgewood, can see the Poly-T out her window and loves it.

Montreal is a wonderful city. The hippest area in Montreal is the Plateau, surrounded by nightlife, shopping, and right next to downtown. Rents are higher in the Plateau because the area is so popular but compared to major cities in North America, the Plateau is not expensive.
Have fun in Montreal and if you have never been here before, be prepared to be pleasantly surprised!
