What's the most appropiate RHH music to put on a child's i pod?

My son who's turning 5 is getting an i pod shuffle for Christmas. He loves hip hop and I want to download some friendly hip hop music for him. Any suggestions about what artists, and/or songs would be most appropriate?

Update:

I am not buying him the i pod...someone else is. He's a very active child and has PLENTY of sports equipment.

Thats a hard one...I bought my 7 year old nephew a little shuffle over the summer and put some tracks on it...He like hip hop too...but I didnt get to complex for him...I tried finding all edited ish...Gym Class Heros...edited Kanye songs...I actually got him radio ish because thats what the little dude listened to...Oh, and I got him some songs off the Rock Band video game...since he was familiar with those songs...

I don't have any younger siblings but I have many little boy cousins and when ever I go to their house they just want to listen to my iPod and I show them new music all the time. They seem to really LOVE Rage Against The Machine which I think is awesome. However, when I get little children running around I'm going to show them music like: Animal Collective The Beatles Andrew Bird Audioslave (I loved them as a kid and I think it would be cool to get my kids into the same music I was when I was young) Beck Bob Dylan (I'll try my HARDEST!) Cake Sufjan Stevens Coconut Records Cat Stevens The Decemberists The Flaming Lips Gorillaz Hopefully Nirvana Modest Mouse Neutral Milk Hotel ETC.ETC.ETC.ETC. Here's a star!

  • My little girl is 5 and we got her a shuffle as well. Since she is a girl of course she had to get all Hannah Montana (that little girl irks me but my baby likes her) But she is into the stuff on the radio so i got her some edited stuff like 2pac , some Missy, a little bit of eve, I also got her the 2 Chris Brown CD's to throw on there, some of Kanye stuff she likes his new joint which I cant stand, and she likes the Drop out so I got a edit one too for her.

And my child is very active as well with dance classes, karate, and soccer Just cuase she wants to get her child a shuffle does not mean she is not playing her part as a mom so up yours buddy!!!!

    Kid N Play

Santigold ( My daughter is 6 & goes nutts over this as well as other kids)

Some of those Naughty by nature singles

    Salt N Pepa

lol. @ dude tryna tell you what to get your son...

    *smh*

I was goin thru this a little while back when my godson wanted me to put music on his iPod.

i'm mostly with Dilla on it.. I bought him some edited stuff off iTunes.. and then was careful about what I put..cuz we all know--Kids learn qick.. so I stuck with some Kanye and Lupe and older stuff like ROOTS and ATCQ.. i was TRYING to lead him in the direction of "good music" according to my taste.. bt he also asked for some of the radio stuff he already was familair with..

You have good taste in music though.. Im sure it wont be too much of a task..

I would download Will Smith. That's a hard question well songs,

    Naughty by Nature-"Hip Hop Hooray"

    Mase/Mya-"Take you There"

    Kanye West-"Stronger"

    Erick Sermon-"Music"

    Pete Rock/Cl Smooth-"T.R.O.Y"

I'm pretty sure all of Heavy D's material is clean. You can scan through his or your favorite music to see. You could also buy cd's at Wal-Mart since they're clean and put them on his Ipod.

    Source(s): Great mom!! I need a great mom too,I want a 40gb Ipod o.k mommy:)

My nephew wants one also and I was thinking the same thing. I'm thinking the commercial songs- just the clean versions though.

  • i would say the same music you listen to but clean version. i'm already buying edited music, i'm gonna have a baby in march and i don't think she needs to her lil wayne talking about fu*kin. and trust me she loves her lil wayne every time i play it in the car she's starts to kick and gets excited.
