40 weeks pregnant this Saturday?
I had a doctors appointment yesterday and she told me I am 1.5 cm, still thick but very very soft. What does still thick but very very soft mean?
I have had my membranes swept twice. The first time it hurt like hell but I lost my mucus plug and the second time it didn't hurt as bad but nothing has happened.
My doctor isn't going to let me go more than a week over my due date. She is on call this weekend so I called and asked today if she would consider inducing me this weekend if I don't go naturally before Saturday. If she doesn't I wont have her as my doctor when I do go and I don't see what harm doing it a few days early would cause. She told me to come in on friday and she is going to check my dilation again and make a decision from there.

it your cervix is still thick that means you haven't really started to efface yet. but if your soft its on its way. i don't see how you could be both. and i don't understand why she wouldn't i'm due the 14th my birthday and my dr is going to induce me on the 10th. she said it wasn't a medical reason to do it when i asked her at 37wks and that it would be closer to my due date and a couple of days wouldn't do any harm to the baby. because i'm miserable and uncomfortable and i know how you feel. every one says being induced is worse than natural labor but to me labor pains are labor pains they both hurt and there is nothing you can do for one that you can't do for the other.and if she is going to check you on friday then she probably will induce you on your due date which isn't that bad. but i do know that a few days seem like for ever away. i changed my dr at my 36wk visit because she told me if i reached my due date she wouldn't induce me and that created a big problem for me so i went back to my first son dr. well anyways i don't see why the dr wouldn't do it. so congrats and hope all ends well for you.

I had the same problem that you are having. i ended up being induced 40 weeks and 1 day. Im not too sure if i would want to be induced again, i had a rough time with the labor cause it progressed very rapidly with the patocin, and i ended up not dilating past 2 cm so i had to have a c-section. Its been 7 weeks and i still have pain from it and from what i understand if i would of had him the other way my recovery would of been a lot faster. Give it a little more time....Hang in there i know its going to be hard and seem like forever but it is so worth it no matter which way you end up having your baby!! Good Luck

If the baby isn't ready, then the baby isn't ready. I don't see why you are so bent on being induced. I mean for all you know, the due date is off and you are actually still a little early.
I mean I know how you feel, I'm 36 weeks right now and if I gave birth tomorrow I'd be sooooo happy, but I know it's better for my baby to stick it out until she's ready. I'm sure your doctor won't let you go more than a week or two late anyway, so why not give it a little more time for the baby to come out on his/her own?
Patience is a virtue. Good luck! :)

Usually your cervix thins out and then dialates. It is really on the 1.5 you really need to worry about. If your doctor is ok with inducing you then I don't think there is anything wrong with that. (my son was born at 32 weeks and now he is a healthy 15 month old so a couple days shouldn't matter.) Just know that when labor is induced it is usually a more painful and drawn out birth. Good luck and congratulations!

All you can do is wait and see what she says but a lot of doctors will let you go up to 2 weeks before they will actually do an induction.
Try walking, sex etc, you can google natural labor inducers because it sounds like you only need a tiny nudge in the right direction to get things started.
Good Luck!

If your doctor doesn't want to induce you but your are wanting to go into labor sooner, sperm is a natural labor inducer. So if you can stand it a little romance with your partner it may help speed up the process. We did this for our youngest and he came the next day. When they are referring to soft they are referring to your cervix. Hope this helps and good luck.

Do now not use black cohosh or every other unprescribed "inducer." Black cohosh will have to now not be used throughout being pregnant or lactation. There is a case record of neurological headaches in a postterm little one after exertions induction with a blend of black cohosh and blue cohosh (Caullophylum thalictroides) throughout a dwelling start. Black cohosh produces endometrial stimulation. This approach it raises blood waft to the pelvic field. Considering that deliveries are often bloody besides, does not this appear like a foul thought to you? If they ought to do an emergency C-phase, matters will probably be unhealthy sufficient with out intentionally stimulating pelvic bleeding.

well they usually wont induce you unless there's a medical reason for it. just because you want a specific doc doesnt usually qualify. at least not in my area maybe your doc is different. personally i would want to wait it out in the hopes that i would go naturally. (i did this and wound up 3 weeks overdue and still being induced) but it was worth a shot. i would rather let my baby stay in longer rather than risk complications

Well, you know you are in good hands with your doctor. If you are comfortable with her, then if she feels you should be induced, then I would do it. If she won't induce you, then you may have to wait from there to see what will happen, but I think there's a chance she will do it. Good luck!!

don't get induced unless it's medically necessary. Because it CAN do harm. Inducement leads to unnatural contractions, which can lead to the baby's heartbeat dropping, which can lead to an unnecessary major surgery, AKA a c-section. Do what's best for your baby, and go naturally.
