how do you set up a sky box?

i have just bought a a new sky box which i want to connect myself but when i connect everything and switch on all i get is a green screen.

I wont be using a sky card i am using free to view

Update 2:

Very obvious bellhaven but its second hand and didnt come with instructions

Update 3:

I will add its second hand but unused and doesnt have set up instructions only has instructions for using the sky box

    You look in the box it came in and follow the simple instructions in the setup manual.

    Make sure you put in the sky card
