What do you make of this conversation?

So this guy at school has been helping me out a lot with stuff and one day we had this kinda weird conversation. He said "I have this kind of awkward question that somebody told me to ask you" I said OK and he asked me if I have a boyfriend. I said I didn't (cause I don't) and he told me one of his friends who sometimes is around when hes helping me thinks Im cute. He then went on to say that he had a girlfriend and she was freaking out about him helping me because she thought we were getting "involved" (which we havent although he is cute and I am attracted to him)

I've seen the friend several times since then and he hasnt said anything, he is NOT at all shy by the way.

I'm might be obsessing over the whole thing, but should I take every word this guy said at face value or was he trying to say something else.

Is it remotely possible that he might be attracted to me? If he is what are signs I should be looking for?

Also I'm 18 and we are in college. (cause I know people always want to know)

I think he might've been trying to say something because, although I'm a girl, I wouldn't just say that the girlfriend was freaking out right out of the blue. If it were a novel, or something of that nature (because that's what's on my mind right now. Sorry, Twilight questions all over the place.) I'd say to take it at face value. But then again, it's life, not a novel.
