How do i keep excel from opening book1 and open two seperate pages?

Whenever i open an excel file saved on my pc it opens "book1". this is very annoying. anyone know how to keep it from happening?

Also, how do i make it so that each excel file that is open is a complete seperate program, meaning, i have a dual monitor setup and i want 2 excel spreadsheets open, one on each monitor. HELP?

Click the icon to open Excel. Then click the icon to open excel a 2d time. Drag the 2d icon to the 2d monitor's screen to get the 2d iteration of Excel running along with the other one.

Book1 is just the default blank spreadsheet name. It's not really opening anything... just giving you a place to begin your work.

Every time you open an Excel file, you should see another program running on your taskbar at the bottom. Each runs in its own space.

Just drag one of the Excel spreadsheets to the second monitor, and you're good to go.

Search the folders under your user name in "Documents and Settings" for XLSTART folder. Any file or sheet in this folder will start every time excel opens. I use it to open a file with useful macros. You may want to just clean it out.

I don't know how to open 2 instances of Excel but as a workaround, you could open 2 files and not maximize them so you can size and shape them accross both screens.
