Is there any one argument against gay marriage that is not based in religious belief?
I have never heard a single opposition to gay marriage (or gay relationships in general) that weren't faith based. How can we make laws based on people's religious beliefs? Doesn't that violate the separation of church and state?
Just want to add that someone reported this question as being inappropriate and it was deleted. I messaged Y!A for an appeal of the decision and my question was almost immediately re-instated. So, to whatever homophobe that's afraid of intelligent discussion of this issue and reported this, all I can say is: Nyah nyah nyah nyaaah nyah!

Not a one.
This Church lead anti- gay marriage campaign is exactly why the Constitution grants all Americans freedom FROM the oppressive power of religion.
Once not so long ago ,the Church had the power of the Crown available to enforce it's own particular view of morality .I mean look at a chessboard ..it reveals much about the Cross & Crown relationship.
When the Pilgrims came over here they were just as harsh and repressive to their own members and non-believers as their persecutors who forced the Pilgrims to flee England were.
The Framers were all too aware of exactly how evil the Cross & Crown Coalition could be to the common people ,so when they finally had the opportunity to write their own rules they hit the brakes and said "No" to any official religion aand the idea to having to pass any religious test as a condition of holding office for public officials
Smart guys those Framers were.

It's a bandwagon they can jump on. Although they outlawed burning witches and other similar entertainment, homophobia is a good opportunity to practice mob mentality and spew hate, which many people consider fun. These are the same people who would take their kids to see public executions, and have a picnic afterward.
It's just getting so hard to find people to kick around these days, now that persecution of blacks and Jews has become illegal; gays are the easiest target, and for Christians it's a guilt-free hatred.

since "marriage" is traditionally a religious institution, how can you separate the two?
Besides, my main issue is the fact that gay marriage comes with an agenda. The activists that are trying to say this has nothing to do with religion are attacking churches! Threatening churches that refuse to perform gay marriages is wrong and it was happened!

No. Even the "it's icky" argument can be traced back to religion.
I think it would be simplest just to grant full equivalent rights to cohabitees as though they were married.
