baby's night time sleep routine?
I have a 6wk old and for the last 4 nights I have started a night time routine of bath, feed, bed. I usually bath her between 9-9:30pm and her last feed is it at 10pm. She sleeps no problem with a bottle in her nouth and goes into her crib asleep for about 5mins then yells!! She is starting to wake more regular during the day but can I still cant get her to sleep at night unless I bring her into bed with me.
By the time she actually falls asleep she's awake again for another feed. She feeds every 3hrs sos I dont have alot of time really between feeds to get some shut eye myself.
This routine was suggested by my carer but im beginning to lose faith. Any ideas or suggestions? How did you get your baby into a routine?
who said I let her fall asleep with a bottle in her mouth? That would be obsurd and sheer neglect!!

ok, what i've found from years of experience is when you establish a routine you need to keept it for at least a week before seeing any significant changes. the bed time you have chosen is far to late for a baby of 6 weeks. she should be in bed at 6 or 7 then having a dreamfeed around 10 making her wake at 1, 4 and up to start the day at 7. there could be a number of reasons she isn't settling very well also :
*she is overtired from not having sufficient sleep during the day - which will make it very hard to settle her
*she has suffering from colic or reflux - causing her discomfort
tyry starting the night routine around 5.
bath at 5.15
bottle at 6.30
bed at 7.00
keep in mind she is only 6 weeks old as well so you must be flexible - i kinow your sleep is suffering but it will only be a few more weeks until she settles into her own routine as well. one last tip ios to put her to bed while she is awake rather than feeding, rocking or patting her to sleep so she knows to associate sleep with her crib. she is so little at the moment there is no need to let her cry - if she cries then try settle her with a song etc without taking her out of the crib. it is hard with babies so young but it wont be long before she's a little older and you can establish a nice structered day allowing you a more settled baby and therefore more sleep.
good;luck with evcerything and if you need anymore advice on this topic pls dont hesitate to email me on scarlett2009@hotmail.com

Honestly, it'll be another couple months before you can really get some shut eye. Even then, it will only be for about 5-7 hours before baby wakes up for another feed. We started our daughter on a bath routine as well: Bath @ 7pm, last bottle and bedtime at 8pm. At first she would fuss when we laid her down and we would pick her up before we realized she would only fuss for a tiny bit and would fall asleep fast. We just were picking her up too soon to let her fall asleep on her own.
She's now 5 months old and eats about every 4-5 hours. However, after her bath, she'll sleep for approximately 6-8 hours before waking up for a bottle again. Yet, I never sleep that long because I am paranoid and end up getting up a couple times to check on her if I don't hear any sound coming from the baby monitor. Let's face it, when you become a parent - sleep becomes a thing of the past.
Who knows, all babies are different - good luck.

I have a 7 week old, who wakes up every two hours! we don't have her on a set routine, but I am seeing her develop her own routine slowly. She wakes up really easily too.
Maybe you should put her to sleep earlier than 9. Bath her around 6pm then feed then sleep. I definetly think you should swaddle her. That helps us out, make sure she is wrapped up tight! Because I notice if her arms get out and she starts moving she will wake up, but if she is swaddled tight, she will sleep better. Do you rock her? When she wakes up at night, check to see if she needs her diaper changed, sometimes mine doesn't even need changing and I changed it and that alone woke her up even more. I will change her every other time she wakes up, then reswaddle her feed her and put her back down. Good luck, I know its hard, we are going thru the same thing.

Since you are bottle feeding you are the one who sets the schedule just let your daughter sleep until she wakes up hungry then feed her until she is full this called demand fed it is a lot easier when they are on a bottle you can set the routine once you get her on demand feed then you will get more sleep and you might get her to sleep longer in the night
On thing though dont let her fall sleep with her bottle in bed it will make it harder for you to take the bottle away when the time comes

I can relate to that my baby has been in a routine since he was four weeks, which is bath , book , and bottle. He is three months now but when I put him on his crib after he finishes his bottle almost everyday he wakes up once or twice. Sometimes im so tired and frustrated that I just want to give up but I haven't I just rock him until he falls back to sleep and just put him down again until he stays on his crib. Don't give up just keep doing it and hopefully he will get in to that routine.

sounds harsh but stop this bad habbit NOW. seriously right now she is young enough to just go with the flow as you make it the routine but soon she will be figuring it out and not be so acceptable to whatever you make her do. It is going to be rough but you need to put her down right away and try to get her to fall asleep on her own. Let her cry for a few minutes and then pcik her up calm her down and do it again but let her cry for a little longer and do it again the mroe repetative you are the sooner she will learn and the better it will be for you. Also it is not good for your baby to fall asleep with the bottle in her mouth it can cause teeth decay

hi i also have a 6 week old and we have found that he wasn't getting enough sleep which led to him being too tired to get to sleep. vicious circle. we are starting on a routine of 7pm bathtime and try to get him to bed by 8pm. before now we were starting bath routine at 8pm and he still wasn't settling till 11pm or so. but he also wasn't sleeping in the day time. now we are working hard to get him napping during the day as well and hope it will help. i would say you are starting bedtime too late for your daughter and sounds like she's overtired if waking during the day as well.
definitely try to avoid the bed if you can! it's a long term habit. best of luck to you.

She's 6 weeks old, very few babies this young fall into a routine, it's hard but I think you should just continue what your doing. Try getting her when she cries, rocking her for another 15 minutes, and put her back. Or sometimes even just going in, and rubbing her belly, and giving her a binky(if you use one) helps, it does with my 8 week old anyway.

first please dont let her sleep with a bottle in her mouth that is why she screems because she has wind bath her about 7 then try a bottle cuddle her and give her her bottle while you cuddle her wind her and get her to sleep she is feeling your stress and it sounds as though she is not etting enough feed have you tried increasing the amount she takes each feed and maybe change the formula

you can't spoil a baby she just needs to feel safe she has been in a warm safe place for the past nine months and being free and cold is a shock. my baby did the same thing i let him sleep with me untill he was 7 weeks i tried to lay him down everyday at first he would cry right away then he would last a couple of hours and slowly he would last longer but just let her know your there she doesn't understand why her mom isn't there.
