Is there a way I can add more RAM to my computer without taking it to the repair shop?

Everyone here has answerred about your ram requirements, but I also wonder if its your video ram that is lacking. Do you have a separate video card, or is your video on-board? If so, then it shares / steals ram from your system.

So in that case adding more ram would be the answer, but if its not an on-board video card, then you must get a faster or higher ram video card.

Depending on the size of your free space on your HDD, you can trick the games to think your computer has more ram than it actually does by manually increasing your virtual memory.

Virtual memory is a windows resource where it uses a portion of your HDD to act as temporary memory. The Windows default Virtual Memory is not enough for online games, so increase it manually depending on the size of your entire HDD and the free space available.

Generally you take the free space available and use 1% as your Virtual Drive.

ie: 400G free = 4G virtual drive (4096M)

To set the virtual drive space, goto:

start>settings>control panel>system

click on the Advance tab

Click on the settings button in Performance

select Advance tab

Select Change in the Virtual Memory section

Select Custom Size

set the initial size to half of what you calculated of the available space

2048M

set the max to 4096M

Press SET

Press OK, OK, OK, you should have exited the system properties now. K... reboot.

You can adjust the max size in 128M increments, but generally no larger than 4G (4096M) regardless of the max space available. Always set the initial size to half of the max, but never lower than Windows default size.

When I only had 1G ram, and 256M videocard I played alot of online MMORPG at almost full resolution because I manually set my virtual ram to 4G max.

With regards to your heading question, YES. you can add more RAM to your computer without taking it to a repair shop, provided that you know what RAM type your CPU supports, such as DDR1 or DDR2. F you dont, u can consult a friend or better, take it to a technician, then buy the hardware. As easy as that.

You said that you like playing games, are you referring to a Hard Drive Memory, or the Random Access Memory? You see, you cant play 2 games at the same time, so I assume it is not RAM. It is HD. You can buy HD of large capacity, infact 1000gb is already out in the market. That capacity can answer your memory need.

Make sure that your computer can hold that type of RAM

Just put it in yourself, it's easy, turn your computer off, open it up , move anything that's in the way, DONT touch the RAM yet until you have all the static electricity off of your hands, I forget what it's called but you should see a big tin box sort of thing in one of the corners, and just lay your hand on it for a few seconds to get any electricity on you, then put them in the slots, you should hear a clicking noise when they are in (and you might want to remove any other RAM that's already in your computer, because it might not be compatible with the RAM your about to put in.

then once it's in put the cover back on, turn on your comptuer, then once it's on and your on the desktop, go to start> control Panel> and look at the classic view and look for a icon that says Check System (might have a check mark on the icon and says System) and look and make sure that your computer sees the RAM is in and you should have as much as you just put in there.

it is extremely easy, finding the right size however, is not easy. but once you have it, just unscrew and plug the ram into a slot, it will already have a ram chip, so just plug it into the port next to it

If you're asking on here then I recommend you take it to a shop so you don't damage anything and it gets done right.

install the RAM yourself. it's a very easy task actually.

If you're using Windows Vista, and have a USB flashdrive/stick/whatever you wish to call it, that is 2GB or larger, then you can use Readyboost to make your system use that as RAM.
