Well it really depends on your style and who you are and what you like to do. All of the American Girl dolls are different in their own special ways, we shouldn't be telling you what doll we like, you should decide that yourself. Just choose which one of these scenarios fits you best and you'll find the perfect doll.
Scenarios
1. Do you want to change the world for the better?
2. Do you like to learn new languages?
3. Do you like to create your own stories?
4. Do you love the outdoors?
5. Do you enjoy caring for animals?
6. Do you enjoy performing for others?
7. Do you enjoy writing and reporting?
8. Do you perform with passion?
9. Are you family-oriented?
10. Do you like flowers and gardening?

Well my favorite right now is Mia, she is the girl of the year for 2008 so she wont be here next year. But I also like Ruthie. And if you want a doll who looks like you, you should get a Just Like You Doll. Theses are the just like you dolls. Pick your favorite!

I personally like the "just like you" dolls, it is a more modern doll, but if you are looking for a more "old time" doll, you should choose molly, or addy, kit is a little newer but she is still an "old" doll. if you like the 1970's hippie era you should get Julie or Ivy
1940's era you should get Molly or Emily
1930's era you should get Kit or Emma
1900's era you should get Samantha or Nellie
1860's era you should get Addy
1850's era you should get Kirsten
1820's era you should get Josephina
1770's era you should get Felicity or Elizabeth
1760's era you should get Kaya
If you like a "rare" one you should get the doll of the year, i got a doll of the year, Marisol and I love her, she was the doll of the year in
?2006? but I wish i had enough money for Mia, I LOVE ICE SKATING JUST LIKE HER! but yeah I would reccomend Julie and Ivy or a "just like yo u doll"

I love Kirsten - she was the one I had when I was younger. But, really, pick your favourite, the one that means the most to you.
