top contributor byline???
I used to be a top contributor but my designation appears to have gone away. I'm almost 1 out of 4 for best answers and am at level 4
I did get a violation a few weeks back. Would that have something to do with it. I felt bad and changed my answer but it was too late. Got in trouble for calling someone an idiot. I tried to explain this on appeal but of course that didn't work.
Would this have been the cause????

The violation most likely didn't have anything to do with you losing your TC badge.
My guess is that you either:
Didn't participate as much in your TC category as you had been during the few weeks prior to being awarded the TC and for most of the time that you had it
OR
Didn't maintain a sufficiently high Best Answer rating WITHIN that category.
I've gained and lost TC status at least 6 times that I can recall ... including 3 times for the one I currently have. In my case it's because I get a bit bored with answering in the same category all the time, so I "go walkabout" ... !
If you wish to regain a TC badge (in your previous category, or perhaps in a new one?), just concentrate on answering a LOT in that category, and of course, strive for a high Best Answer rating! Good Luck!

I lost Top Contributor after a while but got it back, I think it's just on a time basis.

The violation would not have caused you to loose your TC badge.
Lack of activity, participation and/or best answers is the reason.
No ones TC badge is permanent & can be removed.
