How should I go about beginning guitar?
Hi guys,
I have been playing a drum kit for a little over three years now. I am a pretty good rock and blues drummer but, I've always wanted to learn how to play guitar as well. I'm not that sure how to get started. Some of my guitar playing friends have told me that I should begin playing acoustic. I don't exactly want to begin with acoustic because I want to play hard rock and blues like:
Tesla
Skid Row
SRV
Led Zeppelin
Rush
etc...
But if it's better technique wise then I will start with acoustic.
If anyone has any tips or suggestions that would help they would be much appreciated! =)

you dont have to start on an acoustic, just start playing an electric without any distortions at first, you get the same tones as an acoustic, which allows you to hear mistakes more and perfect your technique
but i would suggest getting the lightest gauge strings possible to start
they are easier to break, but they are also way easier on your fingers at first, and much easier to bend
rush is fuckign awesome!

you should start with acoustic. as i stated, should, but you don't have to...i started on acoustic and then went on to electric like in 2 months after i was sure i liked the guitar. personally, i like acoustic better, it's easier to play on the electric though(only the basics though)...other than that, both are challenging ^^
good luck and have fun

**** acoustic its just no fun. All you gotta do is learn is how to play a B chord and an F chord and your friggin set. Power Chord all the way to the top baby!!
