solve 4y^2+7y+8=10 aka 4y^2+7y-2=0?

can any one help me with this? if i fail this upcoming test... i have to retake the whole class. I DON'T GET THIS AT ALL!!!

the answer has to come out y= ? or Y=?

but if you can do it they way you were taught, i can figure it out the rest.

    4y^2+7y+8=10

    4y^2+7y-2=0

    (4y-1)(y+2)=0

    4y-1=0 or y+2=0

    y=1/4 or -2
