Dogs gravitate towards the people they spend the most time with...so spend more time with your dog. Make sure you're the one feeding and watering him. You need to exercise and play with him...then your dog will bond with you more.

Dogs are animals they do not understand people status but they do understand a pack leader so be one.

Be a Pack Leader. A dog is not a possession, and will chose the company in the house that most meets his/her doggy needs. You want that dog to favour spending time with you, make that what the dog prefers.

Make yourself interesting to him by being a Leader, start with long walks daily, after the walk play, challenging play. Shepherds are very bright and need the intellectual stimulation. He is favouring staying with them because what they are doing is more interesting than what you are doing, but long walks will be far more interesting than what they are doing, learning to catch a frisbee will be more interesting, etc, etc......

You need to keep his interest and loyalty on you. Make sure you feed him yourself, play games with him and give him treat toys to amuse himself. You do need to walk him and also spend time training him, come, sit, stay, drop. The more mental and physical stimulation he gets, the more attractive you will be.
