Moe is used only to describe girls. It would mean something that a guy finds cute in a girl, especially in anime.

Ex.: Cosplay (dressing up as a maid, cat, etc.)

Kawaii means cute, and it can be used to describe anything.

Ex.: Kawaii na doressu (a cute dress), Ano neko wa kawaii (that cat is cute).

kawaii is hideously overused and can be used to describe anything in a positive light.

Eg ... Cute, pretty, beautiful, sexy, any adjective you like really.

Hello Kitty is the personification of kawaii!

I make a point of never using this word ... Japanese school girls do it enough for me!
