Brakes for a 92 ford explorer?
Is there such a thing as a brake modulator on a 92 Ford Explorer Manual Trans. V6 ? My Brake guy says we need a new one for $160.00 for parts and $100.00 labor.

what are the symptoms of your brake problem?

If you have anti-locking brakes, disconnect the module. If the problem persists, it's not in that part of the system.
If you still have the problem, you probably have an out of round brake rotor. Going through water while the brakes are hot, sometimes causes the rotor to warp. The rotors will need to be turned.

The brake system is actually two separate circuits, one for the front and one for the back. These two circuits go through a proportioning valve, usually mounted on the frame. This valve determines the pressure differential between front and rear. They have been known to get dirty and stick in one position. When this happens, your brake light will come on, and your brakes may act strangely. If this is the part in question, the offer he made is a fair one.
