If you received something from a store that you hadn't paid for?
what would you do?
Today, my wife left a store and drove away. She just happened to look at the receipt at her next stop before coming home. She didn't see a $60 item on the receipt and checked the bag to find that it really was in there. She knew that she should take it back but called and left me the message. Under those circumstances, what would you do?
I left one detail out, my wife called to tell me she was taking it back. The only reason she called was to explain why she was going to be late. There was no beeper thing because it was properly removed, the clerk simply missed scanning the item. They even gave her an additional $20 off. Who says being honest doesn't pay? Even though she was already willing to spend her time and gas to do the right thing, giving her the extra $20 off was a very nice gesture on the store's part.
Thanks for the answers, well at least most of them.

Integrity is doing the right thing even if you know that nobody is watching.

YOu have to realize that mistakes happen in both sides. At times, you're the one paying twice for one item. You very often get screwed by big corporations without knowing and sometimes you even know that you are being screwed but you can't do anything about it.
So when it comes your way, I'm not saying you should screw them, but it isn't such a big deal for these corporations. And anyway, it is their fault
So what are you gonna do? Drive back to the store with your gas, wasting your time, pay for the item ... would they do something similar for you?
Source(s): It's not really a matter of being ethical, more a matter of fairness Would the store drive to your house in order to give you the item you purchased but forgot there? Do they even call? If the store does that, then ok, do the same. If they never do that, in a way, how does it become your problem? (of course, I'm not talking about a mom and pop store ... it's different) - JanLv 71 decade ago
I would take it back and pay for it. I certainly wouldn't feel good knowing that I had something that I didn't pay for. To me that is stealing. Even though it wasn't through any of my actions,I still know it wasn't paid for.
I would feel worse if it was a gift for someone else. I couldn't cheerfully give a gift that I knew was gotten through dishonest means.

I'm surprised the beeper didn't go off. Just return it. I hope they don't think you stole it and then had second thoughts?
