What kind of food, snacks, supplies can be brought into the Bahamas ?
I often read of previous visitors recommending filling suitcases with snacks, supplies and foodstuffs, to cut the cost(expense) of a trip to Nassau and or Paradise Island (Harbor side Resort) so as not to upset Bahamian customs. If a duty is imposed, what cost ranges are we talking about. Will be four of us (two adults & two kids going in Feb. 09

You can bring nearly anything you want except fresh fruit and vegetables. Meat has to be in it's original wrapping (USDA label).
You can bring 2 ltrs of wine or alcohol, and if you bring a case of beer, you'll pay an add'l $18 per case at customs.
Most people bring packages snacks like granola bars, pringles, crackers and peanut butter, etc.
Be careful how much you bring, with airline restrictions, you can easily go over weight, making your baggage more expensive than grocery shopping in the bahamas.
BTW.. Harbourside has a scheduled grocery run. You can shop when you get there.

Something to remember is that the customs duty is generally for items that you are importing and not things for your personal use. That's why when you travel abroad, your country allows you to bring back a certain amount of souvenirs. You can't bring items that might bring disease, like live plants, without permission.
Supermarkets in the Bahamas import nearly everything from the US, and most of these items will be cheaper in your home supermarket. I always bring a small jar of peanut butter, breakfast cereal in a ziplock, granola bars, a jar of curry sauce (just add fresh meat and veg), boil-in-bag rice, coffee and a weeks worth of filters, a small bunch of sugar packets, etc.
If your whole family wants to go to the supermarket, it's generally cheaper to get a taxi because the daily shuttle is $7 per person, and you only get an hour.

With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.
According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. So if you're already preparing for the crisis (or haven't started yet) make sure you watch this video at http://www.familysurvival.tv/ and discover the 4 BIG issues you'll have to deal with when the crisis hits, and how to solve them fast (before the disaster strikes your town!) without spending $1,000s on overrated items and useless survival books.

I do not think that it should be a problem to bring snack (non perishable) to the Bahamas..to be on the safe side save your receipts.
I am a Bahamian and when i go back home with my children I pack my luggage with soups, chips, jello and cookies ect. They never give me a problem , they just look and let me go with my business...good luck and have fun

Most foods are allowed. You cannot bring fresh fruits and vegetables, or home prepared foods. You can bring meat, cheese, and processed food in its original containers, that will support your family. Enough for your personal consumptions. 1 ltr of wine or alcohol is allowed.
