How much jail time for bulletproof vest in California?

I live in California. And due to my recent security concerns i plan on purchasing a bulletproof vest. The one i am interested in is level IIIA. I wouldnt wear it casually, however on ocassion i would wear it to public places

If searched and bulletproof vest was found, how long would i be facing?

would it set off any metal detectors?

and does body armor level matter?

The only people prohibited from possessing body armor are those previously convicted of a violent felony. (Pen C 12370.) It also increases the punishment if you commit a felony while wearing body armor.

Bottom line, unless you have been convicted of a violent felony, or plan on committing one, you will not get any time for wearing a bulletproof vest, because it is completely legal.

i never heard of bulletproof vests becoming illegal anywhere in the US. only thing i know is threre can be a extra charge on you if you plan on using it for illegal purposes. if its like a normal vest like what Law Enforcement wears then you shouldnt have to worry about setting off any metal detectors since theres no metal parts in them. but even wearing the vest you can still die from a gunshot to the gut. no matter what those bullets will go into you several inches even when not penetrating the vest

Body armor is not illegal, anywhere. It is not a weapon that can cause harm, it is for personal protection, which is why there would be no reason for it to being illegal. Most vests would not be setting off metal detectors, unless they have steel plates, or large zippers on them.

Body armor level defines what kind of caliber rounds it can stop. Obviously, the higher the level, the larger caliber it can withstand.

How is a bulletproof vest breaking the law? Don't we have the right to protection?

You wouldn't be facing anything. Under the first amendment, you have the right to bear arms provided you carry the appropriate permits for them.

Bulletproof vests are not arms nor weapons. There is nothing in the law that keeps you from using them.

You would have t do at least about 2 years jail if you were to purchase one

It would give off any metal detectors

normally if you're quiet about what you've done wrong you will not get in trouble. and that should be how it works out for the better in a situation.
