How does one stretch their vocal range?

Okay, I am a comfortable soprano one and my highest note is C in the sixth octave of the piano. Having heard Sarah Brightman and a few other "Christine"s hit the E just above that in Phantom of the Opera, I yearn to achieve that vocal range, and that note just out of my reach is my goal. However, I have no clue whatsoever how to stretch my vocal range to hit it, and I find myself very confused. Girls who claim to be altos also claim they can hit that note in falsetto - however I sing in my head voice whenever I sing, whatever I sing. It makes no sense to me. How can I stretch my range to that note, or even higher, without a coach and without tearing my vocal cords?

As a side question, I have heard rumors of some kind of legendary "8 octave" range that comes naturally and is rare. Does this exist?

VERY, gently warm up, using a piano/keyboard and begin near the middle C (also known as C4) and work your way DOWN first. This gently warms up your vocal chords, using the lower frequencies of the notes to get your voice moving. Then, begin at C4 again and SLOWLY work your way up. Once you get to a point where a) it hurts to sing a note or b) the note falls out of tune you have reached the limit of your range. Take about 15-20 minutes every day to get to your goal. Depending on how long you've been singing, it could take weeks. Avoid sugary drinks (soda, artificial juices), and substitute it with a mix of 1/4 cup of lemon juice, and 2 Tablespoons of honey in a full mug of warm water after you sing.

With regards to your head voice, you may need help from one of the girls that's an alto to teach you how to use your chest voice.

Just do a bunch of Scales. Start low and go high. Go up one note at a time. That is what I do. I am a tenor/bass. The average human has about 2-3 octaves. The only 8 that I have seen was someone that made bird sounds SO IDK about that one.

Do the scale on a piano and see how low and how high you can go. Everyday try and go up a note or two...
