Why do people from Detroit hate the Somerset Mall?

I was searching for questions about the best mall in Detroit, and all the answers to those questions that recommended the Somerset Mall, had like a millions thumbs down. Apparently it's for "rich" people and everyone is rude at the mall. If people think that mall is for rich people .... that's sad. Seriously, why do so many people HATE it? It’s only a MALL and it IS the best mall in the area, that's a FACT.

Somerset South IS very "old money" and way out of my price range, so I tend to stick to North. Even in South, though, I have NEVER had a problem with rudeness or been looked down on because I am wearing "inexpensive" (non-designer) clothes. North is just another Lakeside or Great Lakes Crossing, really - just with a better food court. Somerset IS the best mall in the area.

Its a great mall but people are allowed their own opinion. It is a very high priced place to buy anything. Its just like any other retail trap, items are overpriced because of the location. Michigan Ave stores in Chicago are 20% more expensive than in a local department store. That's why people don't like The Somerset Collection. Its for the suckers. We as economists will have other options.

    I don't hate it.

It is ok. It is just shopping center.

and yes they do have some good stores there. but I know I can get better deals somewhere else..

It is better than Macomb Mall or Eastland mall (which both will close really soon 2010- 2012) Leases are up for the Anchor stores. Summit Place is next to close also.

I think the only reason why most don't like it because Somerset is clean , safe, and a bit pricey, and very classy which is unheard for other shopping areas. Just my opinion.

Its not a fact its an opinon. The people ther aren't rude but most of them are high class, which can lead to rich people. I live down the street from 8 mile and mound road, but i love Somerset I find it beautiful I think they're more used to lower class and not as expensive things. It is for rich people because most of the stores there are expensive. I mean come on, the Apple Store, Abercrombie and Fitch, Nordstroms, Lacoste if you live in Detroit most likely you dont have the money to buy that stuff.

Half of Somerset is rich, the other half is normal. I like the mall, it's beautiful but I live out in Washington Township so I don't make any special trips way out there. I like Partridge Creek; the restaurants are really good and it's close to me!

I would NEVER go to Somerset if it weren't for the Apple Store. Great lakes Crossing and Twelve Oaks OWN Somerset!

Source(s): I go to Great Lakes all the time and have been to 12 Oaks literally about 200 times or more, and go to Somerset to the Apple Store.
