can you take a gift card w/ out paying for it? Ex. u take a gift card but it has nothing on it (no money).?

another e. ( take starbucks card w/ no money on it w/ out going to the cashier

    yeah. i work at starbucks && give em all the time. we throw soooo many away everyday. i guess people collect em?? lol

    The card is the property of the store until they tell you it's OK to take it. Removing a card from a display would be stealing, just like removing anything else from a display and walking out with it.

    Either way, it is theft. While it cannot be used until money is loaded on it, it is still the store's property. Why would you even bother doing something like that? Gift card fetish?

    no, you are not supposed to do that. It isn't like a 'take one' display. Although such cards are useless until it is validated with cash, it costs money to produce and stock and it is still stealing.
