Why don't independent singer/songwriters hold the copyright in their own name instead of some made-up company?
I notice that a lot of independent singer/song writers mark their music with some weird "company" name like (c) 2014 XYZ Song Publishing instead of saying (c) 2014 Joe Songwriter. There must be a reason because everybody seems to do it. Why don't they hold the copyright in their own name?

After a positive finding on a mammogram, a "needle biopsy" or a "surgical biopsy" is called for. Does this get done by an oncologist? A general surgeon? Someone else?
2 AnswersCancer1 decade agoWhat is the polite way to notify a graduate school that I do not intend to enroll?
I applied to and was accepted in multiple PhD programs. I obviously can only attend one, but I don't want to be rude and say that I won't be coming because I got into a better program. I really do appreciate the consideration of all the schools that accepted me.

Is this a tax on a person, or a vehicle, or on a residence or business? What are the boundaries? Do you need a sticker on your car?
4 AnswersLondon1 decade agoHow does copying a DVD damage it?
I rented a movie and when I took it out of the box it looked strange; the data side was all patterned and the DVD player just put up a flickering checkerboard. When I went back to the store for a refund, the manager just looked at it and said, "Oh, somebody tried to copy this". I'm curious. How can just reading the disk damage it?

1 AnswerVideo & Online Games1 decade agoHow do the English wash themselves?
In the US, I'm used to a hotel providing a bath towel, a hand towel and a washcloth in the room. Now I'm in England and all the give me is the two towels but no washcloth, even though they provide soap. Was I supposed to bring my own cloth? I've been getting by with using the small towel, soaked down after shaving, but what was I supposed to be doing? It's not just one day, so I don't think it's a mistake.

9 AnswersCredit1 decade agoWhat's good about oil speculators?
Why is it that speculators are criticised when oil prices go up, but there is no call for regulation when oil priced go down because speculators are trading from the short side?
Granted, lately the trend following speculators have been buying, but that means that traders who follow a counter-trend strategy or a reversion-to-the-mean strategy are selling short. Most of the time, speculators are trading with other speculators and the effect on the price is nil. But we all benefit, because all this activity creates liquidity and reduces risk for people in the oil industry, wich results in lower costs for everybody. So, why aren't we cheering for speculators?

19 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow does Merrill Lynch keep getting customers?
Merrill Lynch recently lost around $8 billion of their own money on bad investments in their in-house accounts. Their "Merrill Lynch" branded mutual funds have never done well. Obviously, the work done by their research department is worse than worthless. So why don't their customers jump ship? How do they keep getting new ones?
