What medical specialty does breast cancer biopsys?

After a positive finding on a mammogram, a "needle biopsy" or a "surgical biopsy" is called for. Does this get done by an oncologist? A general surgeon? Someone else?

You doctor will refer you to the correct doctor.

    Radiologists do needle biopsies.

    Surgeons do excisional biopsies.

Oncologists only treat people with cancer or blood disorders and diseases and they only do bone marrow biopsies.

    Source(s): I am a cancer registrar.

When I had by biopsy it was done by the surgeon himself.
