Wav files. How do I take only a portion of the file and save it?

I have a wav file that I made via my DVR (Digital voice recorder) And the program it came with only lets me Hear the file. Is there a free program that I can DL that will let me take a part of that wav file and save it?

Im useing Windowa xp home if that helps.

Thanks!

If your looking for a quick and easy way to just cut bits, try using the sound recorder that comes with Win XP.

In your start menu, programs, go to Accessories, Entertainment, Sound Recorder.

If you open up your .wav in there, you can go to the sections you want, and then use the delete options in the Edit section to cut it down, then save that section. If you then open up the original again, you can repeat that for other bits you may want.

It's a very basic option, but saves you time downloading, installing etc.

Audacity is a freeware program that can record and edit audio and if you install the third party Lame encoder, you can even save your audio in the MP3 format.
