Would like to know if anyone has seen the last name of CHICK in any of England's phone directories!?

My father passed on in 1981. A niece stationed in the US.Air Force, called wish her condolences, and stated she had seen the last name of Chick, in a phone directory. She didn't indicate as to where exactly, but if memory serves, it was somewhere in England.

I ran the UK Electoral Roll for Chick and my computer offered me an initial list of 200 Registered Voters with that surname, so it's a pretty common name over here.

I had a classmate at school in Bristol who was a Chick.

I don't think the name is half as uncommon as you think it is.

My local phone book for my little insignificant corner of the UK has just two entries for this name, but that is nowhere near the full picture, as this assumes that (a) everyone has a landline (mobile phones don't count) and (b) that they are not unlisted or ex-directory.

The electoral roll is a far more reliable list, but even this only includes people who are over 18 and registered to vote (which is not everyone), and the online edition of the electoral roll can be "opted out" of in the exact same way as people can opt out of the phone directory - for data protection and privacy reasons. Just because there are only two people in my local phone book with this name does not mean there are only two people in my local area - you could triple or quadrapule that number quite easily, and then if you times it by the number of phone books in the UK (100+ - I lost count by then), then the number of people which this name could very easily hit four figures. It is NOT uncommon.

There are thousands with this name in the British phone books.
