You can use the Ubuntu live cd. and use dd to take a raw image of the drive, and then you can try and repair it.

ddrescue is basicly the only thing that will let you try and copy data to a new place (ddrescue will copy as much as it can read from one place to another) and then you can repair that filesystem on a working hard disk and hopefully then you will be able to mount your drive.

before I finish.. a word of caution.. just dont tough your hard disk and do anything to it... do not try to retrieve data or anything... jsut unplug and keep it safe... and when you try to recover the data... install the recovery software in a stand alone computer / laptop and have a spare disk which can backup ur restored data.
