Should they have to replace this, or should I suck it up and pay for a new one?

I recently bought a brand new sealy serta queen size bed for my daughter, she is 10 years old and only weighs 90 pounds, all of my kids have brand new beds to sleep in! Anyways my daughters bed, I bought it at Ashley, it is only 2 to 3 years old, my daughter sat down on the corner of her bed to put on her pants and the frame snapped right in half! She is only 90 pounds, how could that have broken that? I went into Ashley and some old guy came up to me and I explained to him, hey this bed is only 2 years old and how could the frame have broken in the way it did by a 90 pound little girl, well he got angry with me and told me he has worked there for 20 years and he has never seen or heard of anything like that ever happening and my kids had to have done something to it! I was pretty upset about this, yes the bed is only 2 years old and maybe they can't warranty it, but don't you think they should at least send someone out to check it for being faulty! Is there another company to get a hold of about this, I tried to email Ashley about it and filled out a complaint, but it would not submit, anyone have any suggestions?

Update:

My kids are well behaved kids and don't jump on their beds we have trampolines for that, I know she did not jump on that bed, and even if she did she is only 90 pounds!

I've never had a bed to do that and I've slept in some cheap beds and I am way more than 90 pounds. You may be able to call the BBB. If others have had the same complaint, they'll have a record of it.

Are you sure your kids weren't jumping in the bed?

Any warranty on the bedding would be through the manufacturer, not through Ashley Furniture. I would directly contact the manufacturer, as you are correct, even if the bed is no longer under warranty, two years does seem like a very short time for such damages to occur.

You will need to make certain you have the full details in order to contact the manufacturer. If you do not have your original receipt, perhaps Ashley Furniture could at least assist you in this regard.

However, if it were the frame that broke rather than the mattress, that may be made by still another manufacturer. Ashley Furniture should be able to pull their records and assist you with locating a manufacturer to discuss this problem with.

Were you mad when you talked to him? The frame broke because it was stressed. I would think she had jumped on it a lot. Even so, we never had a frame break. So I would go ahead and make the claim again.

It looks like you have a 1 year warranty. Read the warranty, take the documents they ask for, and try the store again. Call to make sure the day manager is there. If there are several stores in the area, try to find out who owns them and contact that person.

http://www.my3cents.com/showReview.cgi?id=30547&s=... Read this. It says each store is independently owned and that the owner makes the policy, including warranties. What a crock.

It has been too long to seek a free replacement.

My guess the kids jumping on the bed (they all do this) caused a crack in the frame that broke at a later date.

it has been over 2 years, there under no obligation to warranty this. The manufacturer of the bed frame itself would be the ones to contact, and they usually do not carry warranties on this.

I was going to answer but common sense cut me off.

Call... using the phone to everybody if you want to have anything happen. That holds true with anything. Get the flip of of the net and start calling corporate, the store manager and threaten to sue.

You're out of luck unless it's still under warranty.
