Canadian Health Care?

I was listening to a Blue Bombers game this summer and heard a radio commercial for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Manitoba. What role does a private health insurance company have in a country with universal health care?

The Plans you mentioned may pay for services that our "Universal Health Care" may not cover, such as:

    -Ambulance Costs

-Some Prescriptions that may be more expensive than govt plan will pay

    -Eye Glass Prescriptions

-Transportation to get home from a foreign country if you get sick there

-Dental Care (which is not part of our govt plan)

-short or long term disability insurance

    -private hospital rooms

Just google Blue Cross for more details.

Its interesting that you were listening to a Winnipeg Blue Bombers CFL Game - they are my favourite team!

Canada's health care does not cover everything. They do not cover chiropractors or eye glasses if you are between the ages of 20 and 64, as well as a few other things. It is basically a gap-coverage health insurance
