a devi daasa is a young girl given to a hindu temple to be a dancer or concubine for the priests. It sort of means " goddess slave" in sanskrit. It is also in hindi. I have seen this sort of thing depicted in Bollywood movies.
I don't know if this is still in practice today, but it is probably not legal if it is.

Source(s): Bollywood movies sometimes depict such girls/women, but I have not read directly about them. - 1 decade ago
I'm not sure if it's Hindi because I don't know it. In Malayalam (another Indian language), there's a word called "daivadasan" which means "holy person" or "blessed" or "saint."
Hope this helped!
